The below reviews are intended to be short, and easily read within 1 minute. All reviews are my own personal opinions, and I would love everyone to share their opinions as well. I read a lot of Fantasy Books (with the occasional historical fiction and thrilled thrown in), therefore my reviews are generally based on 3 things:
World Building - Is the world of the book worth spending time in?
Characters - Am I able to connect with the characters, or find them interesting?
Plot - Is the plot engaging and does it leave me wanting more?
Artemis Fowl
Artemis Fowl is the first book in a series about a 12 year old criminal mastermind. With Artemis’ father missing, and the family fortune gone, Arty is left to come up with a more creative way to find money. Enter the fairies and their gold!
The Diabolic
I quickly fell in love with Nemesis and her journey; both her trying to act human, and trying to figure out what that even means. Watching her navigate the moves and counter moves of the galactic leadership was fascinating.
Majesty
Majesty is the sequel to American Royals and picks up after the shocking ending of the previous book, and now the four girls need to deal with the consequences of their actions. While most of them start in the same situations they were in before, new romances are eventually introduced.
The Gunslinger
This book is mostly setup for the rest of the Dark Tower series, and compared to the other books… it’s quite small. There is not a lot that actually happens, and instead we get flashbacks and other visions during the Gunslinger’s journey.
Heart of Black Ice
Like any good series finale, we get the return of many familiar faces and places that had previously been introduced. I was particularly excited to see the return of a certain “character” from the original series.
To Sleep in a Sea of Stars
Now, this book is 800 plus pages of heavy science fiction so all the technical terms and jargon may not be for everyone, but I absolutely loved it. This book made me laugh, it made me cry, and it make me feel hopeful for the future of the human race.
The Name of the Wind
Another unique aspect of this tale is how it handles magic. Here it’s called “Sympathy”, and it’s a very unique take on how magic works. I found the concept of sympathy fascinating, and I really felt like it was something I could learn, if only I had the right books.
Inkdeath
This book picked up directly where Inkspell left off, with most of our characters still stuck in the Inkheart book. The land of Inkheart was in chaos, and everything had gone so far out of the control of what the author originally intended. Life for all the characters in this story was threatened by a ruling tyrant, and Mo had to make a deal with Death itself in order to change this cursed story. Sound confusing at all? Well it was!
Different Seasons
Different Seasons is a collection of novellas by Stephen King. Many of these stories have famously been turned into movies - The Shawshank Redemption, Stand by Me, and Apt Pupil. None of these stories is a typical horror story, meaning there are no vampires, otherworldly creatures or anything supernatural.
American Royals
This book was just so much fun! It’s cute, fast-paced, and very quickly gets you involved in the characters and their romances. You just have to keep reading to find out what happens. I devoured this book in no time at all, and I can’t wait to start the sequel!
Siege of Stone
With the huge ancient army reawakening, and the Norukai, we finally have some villains that are deep, complex, and interesting. One of them at one point I even felt some sympathy for
Manners & Mutiny
This final chapter more or less starts off like those before it… Sophronia continues to insert herself into situations and always finds herself getting into whatever trouble can be found. As this is the climax of the series though, all of the action and adventure in this book is heightened, with great consequences for all those involved.
Shroud of Eternity
Nicci is still trying to fulfill Red’s vision of saving the world, and Nathan now has to deal with the loss of his magic. Along with their new companion Bannon, the trio find themselves in a mysterious city, shrouded from time (Ildakar).
Death’s Mistress
Death’s Mistress is the first book in the Nicci Chronicles series. This series is a direct sequel to Terry Goodkind’s first epic fantasy series - The Sword of Truth. This series focuses on the power fan favorite sorceress Nicci, who was once known as “Death’s Mistress”.
Queen of Air and Darkness
There is so much plot packed into this book - romance, sex, death, betrayal, angels, demons, alternate dimensions… everything you’ve come to love from the Shadowhunter world. There are so many characters, and so many story-lines that I had no idea what was going to happen, or how anything was going to be resolved.
The Last Tudor
I do feel like this book is a fitting end to Gregory’s exploration of the Tudor time period. While I do not believe that this is her best book, it was a great read filled with rich history, fascinating stories, and different perspectives.
The Ruins of Gorlan
I can see why these books are so popular, because Will is a great protagonist. He’s inquisitive, kind, and always tries to do the right thing… even standing up for himself and others against bullies.
Legendary
I was really annoyed in the beginning of this story because Tella does not start out as a likable character. But, as the story unfolds, you really come to understand why she is the way she is. Her attitude is her armor, and underneath it all I believe that she just wants to be loved.
