To Sleep in a Sea of Stars is a science fiction odyssey of one woman’s journey across space. When Kira Navarez accidentally discovers an alien artifact, her discovery will start a war that will not only threaten humanity, but all life in the universe. Unwilling accomplices on Kira’s journey are the roguish crew of the spaceship Wallfish. Each member of this unlikely crew has their own wants, needs and desires. I couldn’t help but fall in love with every single one of them, especially the half-mad and hilarious ship-mind Gregorovitch.

I also very quickly became invested in Kira’s story, and could not read fast enough as she struggled to understand what exactly she had found, and how to deal with the consequences of her actions. One of the big themes in this book is guilt - how to deal with it, how to forgive others, and more importantly, how to forgive yourself.

Now, this book is 800 plus pages of heavy science fiction so all the technical terms and jargon may not be for everyone, but I absolutely loved it. This book made me laugh, it made me cry, and it make me feel hopeful for the future of the human race.
