Artemis Fowl

Artemis Fowl - s.jpg

Artemis Fowl is the first book in a series about a 12 year old criminal mastermind. With Artemis’ father missing, and the family fortune gone, Arty is left to come up with a more creative way to find money. Enter the fairies and their gold! Fairy gold will give Arty the money he needs, so he hatches an elaborate plan to kidnap a fairy and ransom them off for gold. Unfortunately for him, Holly Short and her companions turn out to be a lot smarter than he thought.

Even at 12 years old, I felt that Artemis was actually a genius. Because of that though, he did come off as cold at times. Luckily, he has a great supporting cast of characters around him that allowed him to show off his different sides. As for the fairies I loved them. Their world was a great blend of old world magic, and new world technology. I also loved Holly’s backstory about being the first female officer in her group, and she did a really great job of helping herself out of situations.

Overall, Artemis Fowl is a fun fairy heist adventure, and I can’t wait to find out what antics he gets up to in the next book.
