Pet Sematary
Pet Sematary is a classic King tale filled with horror… the horrors that can happen to regular people, and the horrors hidden deep within an old Indian burial ground. Doctor Lou Creed just moved his family into a beautiful new home in upstate Maine. The only problem? The house sits on a busy trucking route making it dangerous for pets and children to play outside. Luckily the Creed’s new neighbor Old Man Jud both shows and warns them about the local Pet Sematary, and what lies beyond.
There are some very heavy themes in this book about both the meaning of life and death. There is a supernatural element at play, but I really liked that we’re left to wonder what’s more powerful… the pull of the supernatural place, or the power of our own minds. What I didn’t like so much, was the ending. I felt that the main story was wrapped up a little bit too quickly, and there were some questions left unanswered, and it was much more open ended than I like my stories to be.
Overall, Pet Sematary is a creepy, gruesome, nightmare of a tale, that is not for the faint of heart.
