Me Before You
Me Before You is a classic girl meets boy romance with a twist. Louisa Clark is a small town girl who likes colorful clothes. A secret from her past keeps her close to home and unable to explore her potential. Will Traynor, once a rich adventurous playboy, now finds himself with quadriplegia, and always dependent on others. When Will’s mother hires Lou as a companion, she hopes that the colorful Lou will help change Will’s outlook on life. But, their relationship grows into something neither could imagine.
I can understand why so many people love this story. Moyes has a way of writing, that keeps you turning the page. Unfortunately for me, I could not get invested in this romance. I found Lou’s lack of understanding of Will’s needs infuriating, and I think she has no idea what life with Will would actually be like. And Will? Pain and suffering does not give you the right to be a jerk. My personal experiences with disabled people really affected my overall enjoyment of the story, and I don’t see myself reading the sequel.
