The Children of D’hara

The Children of D’hara is a series of 5 novellas that continues the story of Goodkind’s popular characters, Richard Rahl and Kahlan Amnell. Richard and Kahlan have been through a lot in the previous 15+ books, and now they have to contend with a goddess from another world, and a witch who wants their children dead.

This series does such a great job of expanding on the lore. There are references to characters, world-building, and even plot points from all the way back to the first book - Wizard’s First Rule. I love these characters and this world, so being able to return to them is always a treat. But, not everything here was necessary. Goodkind can be a bit heavy handed with dialogue, and there are entire chapters of characters just discussing things, which prevented the plot from moving forward as quickly as it could have.

The story also ends a bit abruptly, and knowing I won’t get any more, makes me sad. Overall, Children of D’hara is meant for true Goodkind fans, and only a love of 27 years worth of previous books with allow for this book, to be truly appreciated.
