Death’s Mistress is the first book in the Nicci Chronicles series. This series is a direct sequel to Terry Goodkind’s first epic fantasy series - The Sword of Truth. This series focuses on the power fan favorite sorceress Nicci, who was once known as “Death’s Mistress”. Now, she’s setting out on her own adventure to travel the Old World, and unite everyone under the peaceful reign of her beloved Lord Rahl.

Her traveling companion is the 1,000 year old troublesome wizard Nathan, a one-time prophet trying to find his place in a world where prophecy no longer exists. Together, their travels will see them cross paths with a mysterious witch woman named Red, thieves in the back alleys of port cities, attack by vicious creatures on the high seas, and an intense magical confrontation that could destroy the whole world.

This story is so refreshing. Even with some familiar characters, there are so many new characters, and tons of new locations not previously explored in Goodkind’s other works. Nicci is such an awesome character as a “once baddie turned good”, and I can’t wait to see where her adventures take her.
