The Great Hunt

I wasn’t happy with the first book of the famous “The Wheel of Time” series, but I said to myself, that one more book and that’s it.The plot starts after the ‘killing’ the Ba’alzamon, which of course, isn’t dead (the series spans quite a few books, so what I have expected?), Rand and his friends stay in Fal Dara fortress. Along with theme there is a prisoner Padan Fain, which in the previous book occur to be controlled by the Evil One (at least partly). But all good things end quickly, and Fain is rescued by Darkfriends and Shadowspawn, taking the Horn of Valere and Matt’s strange knife (without which he will die soon).

The rest of the book is a story of chase after Fain by Rand, Perrin, Matt and some of the Shienaran soldiers. During this journey Rand will learn new magic powers and see new worlds using them. The other plot involves Egwene al’Vere and Nynaeve al’Meara which start their study to become Aes Sedai.

The story gets interesting when the Seanchan appear near Falme city, where the end of book will take place. Strangely, all the main characters will appear in Falme, this will probably become a pattern for all other Jordans book (that is the final climax with all the characters). Those Seanchans are the most interesting part of the first three Jordans books, I was very eager to know more about them (they have even forced Aes Sedai to their will!).

The book has some strange mini plots involving the captain of the ship that appeared in the first book, and I must say this part could be taken out of the book with much harm to the whole story. The pace of the book is quick and interesting (unlike the third book), and forced me to buy the next book of this series, so it’s definitely worth a read.
